Great leaders see the future and then make a plan to take advantage of the incoming change. For example, Ford successfully implemented assembly lines and Apple tablets. Behind these achievements were leaders who didn’t waiver, took the insults, and allowed their results to speak for themselves. Ironically enough, I remember reading an article mocking the iPad name with female hygiene product analogies. Now iPad is a universal name.
What does this mean? It means that if we follow our mind exclusively, we will dismiss “dumb” ideas incompatible with our thinking. It’s hard to make change happen when your brain can’t imagine how a different approach will work. That tells me that new ideas have to start from a place free of logical constraints — our hearts.
But hearts are just a start because they give us a picture of the end state. We still need our mind to get us there.
For example, If I relied on my mind alone, I would have never tried public speaking. Logically, I wasn’t good at it, but my heart kept pushing me in that direction. So I used my mind as an ally to help the dream that God placed in my heart possible. I signed up for Toastmasters, I speak whenever I can, and I’m even making videos.
I accomplished way more than my mind predicted because I trained my mind to follow the heart.
What do you follow more often the heart or the mind? What would happen if you listened to your heart more often?
