Blinders to create impact

You can’t make impact without sticking to your beliefs. Particularly when the going gets tough, because that’s what separates idea created from an idea implemented.

Last week I had a pleasure of chatting with Gordy Bunch, who among many great ideas shared with me that he doesn’t worry about competition. That’s because the only time competition is a factor is when he’s not doing his job. In other words, the blinders of creating value for his customers make competition concerns redundant.

Interestingly enough, last Friday I watched “Instant Family.” A movie about about a foster family that very much centered around loving the kids where they were at. Understanding their unique stories and committing to seeing the difficult times through. However bumpy or hopeless the road ahead may appear to be. Because the moment, the foster parents compared their kids to who they expected them to be, that’s when their hearts closed off and their mind told them that they are over their heads.

There’s just so many ways to label competition. Yes, there is definitely space for healthy kind. Yet, when looking at others tells our mind that we can’t do it, it will never work or more plainly to stop implementing the dream that God placed in our heart. That’s when competition turns toxic.

That’s the time to put the blinders on and compare not to people around us but to the person we were last year, few months ago or even yesterday. Focus on what we can do today versus what we thought our limits were a short while earlier.

How often do you get distracted from pursuing the dream that God placed in your heart? What helps you to put the blinders back on?

Don’t know how to get started? We tend to be very good at solving problems with our minds. However, when our romantic relationships suffer, we don’t feel fulfilled at work, or don’t have quality friends … it typically has very little to do with logic. It’s driven by a locked up heart.
